How to Perform Automated Product Import with X-Cart Automated Product Import Addon
Here is what you should do to import your products to your X-Cart store.
1. Start your work with Automated Product Import Addon by opening Store Manager for X-Cart and choosing Addons section - Automated Import Addon.
Store Manager for X-Cart includes the demo version of this addon by default. Using it you can perform import of 10 products, but to transfer bigger amounts of them you should obtain the license key.
Check the status of your Automated Import Addon in Settings - Preferences.
If Automated Product Import Addon is marked as unregistered, all you need to do is purchase the License Key. After receiving it in an e-mail, enter it in the corresponding field.
Now you can go back to the addon window and use the Automated Product Import Addon to its full extent.
2. The Automated Product Import Addon window consists of 2 main parts: Before Import and After Import. Before the import begins, these sections will be empty.
3. Before starting to import the data you’ll have to specify certain configurations. Click on Create or Modify Import Configuration button. In the window that appears select the import source: local .csv file, .csv via http URL or FTP URL. Depending on the option you choose you’ll need to either specify the local file, enter its URL address or fill in all the necessary fields for establishing FTP connection.
4. The next thing to do is specify delimiter characters that will separate data fields in your .csv file. This step is most important so make sure everything is done properly.
In this same window you can specify the actions that need to be done with the images. You can substitute those already existing with the new ones.
Now you need to assign columns from the .csv file to the corresponding fields. Select the field from the list, choose the corresponding column and move the data from there to the selected field. You can view database fields as frontend labels or attribute codes.
Choose any of these options depending on what is more familiar and comfortable for you. It’s also possible to create additional fields (e.g. Colour, Texture). Click on the corresponding button and enter the name of the field.
If your columns are already given the names of the fields, you’ll just need to use Auto set option to assign columns to the corresponding fields automatically. You can undo everything by clicking on Clear All Relations button.
5. All the previous actions performed correctly, you get to Import Preview. Check the info about your products carefully as this is the way they will be imported to your database. If everything is right, click next.
6. The next section is Import Options. Here you are to make sure that the option Reindex product data is selected. It is most advisable to perform reindexing during the import process. This way all the products in your store are displayed correctly. Moreover, you’ll save more time by doing this during the import procedure than when you reindex the whole catalogue afterwards. This section also allows to clear relations among products. When you’re ready with this, give a name to this Import configuration and click Save to preserve it.
7. Schedule your automated import by adding scheduler tasks. Choose the start time and the period for repeating the Automated Product Import. You can create several tasks with different import configurations. Import procedure will start automatically according to the schedule you’ve created.
8. When Automated Product Import is over, you will be able to see all the changes and updates of your products in After Import section.
